On 23rd June, William will be making his debut in the title role of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo with La Nuova Musica at Kings Place.

Written in 1607, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Favola in Musica tells the timeless tale of Orpheus’ fruitless decent to Hades to bring his bride, Eurydice, back to the world of the living.

William said: “I have been waiting for an opportunity to tackle the role of Monteverdi’s Orfeo for a few years now and couldn’t be more excited to be doing so in collaboration with La Nuova Musica and its conductor, David Bates. Orfeo’s emotional journey through Hell to rescue his beloved, so vividly realised by Monteverdi’s imaginative vocal writing, makes this one of the greatest roles for any singer-actor to inhabit and one which I hope to have the opportunity to revisit and develop throughout my career.”

On 15 & 16 December William will be performing in Handel’s Samson in St. Andrew’s Church, Cape Town with Camerata Tinta Barocca and the St. George’s Singers conducted by Barry Smith. Not only will he reprise his role as Samson’s father, Manoah, but will also be singing the role of the Philistine giant, Harapha.

Critical praise for William’s interpretation of Manoah on the Carus-Verlag recording of “Samson”:
